A partnership has been signed between an Indonesian state-owned subsidiary, Solusi Bangun Indonesia (SBI<\/strong>) and Portuguese company Ultimate Technology to Industrial Savings <\/strong>(UTIS<\/strong>), for the application of a breakthrough hydrogen technology, UC3 Technology, to the cement sector.<\/p>\n The partnership with UTIS <\/strong>falls within the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) <\/strong>agenda that has been strongly developed by SBI<\/strong>, in which environmental, social and governance issues stand out as a strategic focus of the company\u2019s operations. SBI’s efforts today are focused on increasing productivity and efficiency, leading with innovations and best practices, and making the necessary investments to perpetuate the organization\u2019s sustainable growth.<\/strong><\/p>\n SBI <\/strong>which is a subsidiary of SIG, an Indonesian state-owned enterprise and leading building materials company in the country, encourages performance improvement in the energy sector through thermal and electrical energy efficiency to support sustainable industrial practices, and support on the CO2<\/sub> reduction. Currently, SBI <\/strong>has implemented an ISO 50001:2018-based Energy Management System (EMS) to support CO2<\/sub> emission reduction and energy efficiency targets, complying with Regulation No. 14\/2012 of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.<\/p>\n Closing the year 2022, SBI<\/strong> just been rated Gold by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia for its sustainability commitment and performance. \u201cWe\u2019ve been rooting on sustainability in doing everything we do in the business. It is our competitive advantage and value added to the customers and stakeholders\u201d, says Lilik Unggul Raharjo, President Director of SBI.<\/p>\n Amongst the seven rating aspects contributing to Future-Fit Society is the utilization of new renewable energy. While making efforts to continuously reduce CO2<\/sub> emission from thermal energy, SBI<\/strong> explores more opportunities to increase energy efficiency including hydrogen injection which is currently under a feasibility study, and advanced stages of process control implemented at NAR1 in 2021 and will be doubled at other plants in 2022.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Through the UC3 – Ultimate Cell\u00ae Continuous Combustion System<\/strong>, designed and produced by UTIS<\/strong>, the patented UC3 technology increases combustion efficiency by<\/u> injecting controlled amounts of Hydrogen and Oxygen<\/u><\/strong>. The basic principle of the technology is to accelerate the reactions of the continuous combustion process, making it more efficient, as more energy is released with the same amount of fuel. This gain in energy efficiency is materialized from the environmental point of view <\/strong>(reduction of CO2 emissions), both by increasing combustion efficiency (reducing fossil fuel consumption and energy cost and allowing higher usage of alternative fuels), as well as in the improvement of the quality of the final product<\/strong>, whenever applicable.<\/p>\n The system is supplied as an easy-to-install industrial system, requiring only electrical, communication, mains water and sewage connections. The concept underlying the product “plug and play”, allows customers to make minimal changes to their production process to obtain the advantages associated with the product.<\/p>\n The UC3 system <\/strong>is classified as a non-hazardous zone under ATEX (Explosive Atmospheres) standards because it does not store the gases produced. That is, there is a production and consumption ‘on demand’, of H2 and O2 injected at specific points of combustion, ensuring maximum safety of this entire process, which is the fundamental priority for UTIS <\/strong>and SBI<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk is a publicly listed company where its major shares (83.52%) are owned by PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk known as SIG, a state-owned and the largest building materials company in the region.
