UTIS and Gasvalpo achieve historic first Hydrogen Injection into Chile’s Natural Gas Network

UTIS, in partnership with Gasvalpo Energies and project collaborators TRA | Tecnologías de Remediación Ambiental / BussoGroup, proudly announces the successful completion of the H2GN Project — the first-ever injection of green hydrogen into Chile’s natural gas networks in Coquimbo and La Serena. This pioneering initiative marks a significant milestone in Chile’s energy transition towards sustainable and low-carbon solutions.

The H2GN Project, recognized with the prestigious 2024 Avonni National Innovation Award in the Reconocimiento Costamar Isa Vías category, showcases cutting-edge technology developed by UTIS to safely and efficiently blend green hydrogen (H₂) into existing natural gas infrastructure.

In May 2025, the UTIS commissioning team conducted on-site technical training with the Gasvalpo team, ensuring the system’s readiness for hydrogen injection. The collaboration also included engagement with local academia, highlighted by a visit from professors and students of the specialized hydrogen program at Ceduc UCN University, underscoring the importance of integrating industry innovation with technical education.

“This achievement demonstrates the potential of hydrogen as a viable energy vector for decarbonizing traditional gas networks,” said Paulo Gonçalo, CEO at UTIS. “Our technology enables practical and scalable applications that contribute directly to Chile’s climate goals.”

UTIS extends its gratitude to all project partners for their trust and collaboration, including TRA | Tecnologías de Remediación Ambiental, BussoGroup, Gasvalpo, and Energas, whose shared vision made this landmark project possible.
